Conscious Embodiment: A Cueing Workshop for Vinyasa Teachers

1-3:30pm | $50 | $70 for both

We are at an exciting time in modern postural yoga. The number of people who want to keep an element of flow in their practice and move in a way that honors the bodies intelligence is on the rise. And we as teachers have a responsibility to create a safe environment for our students. In this workshop we will focus on the familiar patterns of movement often seen in flow classes, utilizing and increasing our knowledge of body mechanics and honing our observational skills. We will explore and create different ways to get into both classical and modern asanas through precise, accessible alignment, sensible language, and fluid movement. You will leave with a heightened understanding of the connections of all things, while simplifying the process for your students: opening them up to more possibilities and breakthroughs on their mats.

The literal translation of Vinyasa means to place in a special way. We interpret this to mean that the order of forms, or asanas, function in a way that flows. This placement is not arbitrary, and true flow can occur when things fit together and function well. Katonah Yoga gives us the tools and techniques to explore the forms in an inFORMative way that offer insights into both the objective pattern of nature and the subjective pattern of our personal narrative.

Festival Workshops: Introduction to the Theory & Practice of Katonah Yoga

Design ohne Titel-5.png

I’ll also be teaching workshops on Saturday and Sunday in the Karma Cologne Festival!

Join me and other amazing teachers like Sonia Taylor Bach, Ron Reid, Katchie Ananda, Jelena Lieberberg and more!

Katonah Yoga is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan over 40 years. She and her teachers incorporate classical Hatha yoga with Taoist theory, geometry, magic, mythology, metaphor, and imagination — in a practical framework designed to potentiate personal and communal well-being.Framing the practice, maps of time and personal space are defined and refined. Themes using asana as origami, manipulating form for function, and developing a sense of personal measure are incorporated in Katonah Yoga practices.

Katonah Yoga is organized around three principles of esoteric dialogue: all polarities are mediated by trinity; the universe has pattern, pattern belies intelligence; by virtue of repetition there is potential for insight.
Disciplined techniques are organized for revelation through revolutions.

12-3pm | Intro into Katonah Yoga® Theory and Practice | $35/$45 day off/$60both workshop

In this workshop we will focus on how the body, when observed and explored with the right tools, can offer valuable insights in to how well we use our time. The techniques and theory of Katonah Yoga® offer maps and keys to use our bodies as a vessel of discovery for this purpose.

We will explore these tools: The Magic Square, body reading, asana, and pranayama work to gather information that we can use to our advantage on life and on the mat.

Expect to walk away with new insights and tools to up
the function of your daily practice and facilitate your quest for joy.

One of the most basic skills to cultivate when learning to adjust yoga poses is holding space in and reading the room you are teaching. This is true regardless of whether or not you will offer adjustments/assists in your classes. In fact, the tools cultivated in this workshop will enhance your teaching beyond just your capacity to adjust, and you will
leave with a different, and maybe deeper, understanding of the human form in a yoga class.

In fact, the tools cultivated in this workshop will enhance your teaching beyond just your capacity to adjust, and you will

In this installment of the workshop, we will cover:
• Tools for Observation:
• How and what we see in our classes.
• Bio-Mechanics and Joint Space: How we look for and at structure.
• Learning how to approach a person's space and communicate your intent as
clearly as possible.
• Techniques for using hands safely, appropriately, and effectively.
• Exploring the fine line between confidence and arrogance in an approach to adjusting/assisting.
Building block asanas (plank, down dog, etc.), standing poses, and forward folds will be the primary focus of this installment.
